What is a filament bulb

April 24, 2021
The light bulb refers to a lighting source that emits light and generates heat through electrical energy. It was invented by Henry Goebbels (Edison actually found suitable materials, that is, invented the practical incandescent lamp, and the light bulb appeared as early as 1854) . The most common function of light bulbs is lighting. With the development of society, the use of light bulbs has also undergone different changes. Initially, it may be to provide convenience for production and life. However, with the progress of society, there have been obvious changes in the use of light bulbs. Functional lights for different purposes, such as environment and decoration.

The exact technical name is incandescent lamp, which is a kind of lamp that uses electric resistance to heat a thin wire (usually tungsten wire in modern times) to incandescence to emit light. The outside of the bulb is made of glass, which keeps the filament under vacuum or low-pressure inert gas to prevent the filament from oxidizing under high temperature.

How the light bulb works?
The bulb is mainly composed of filament, glass shell, lamp cap and other parts. The metal materials in the bulb are all conductors, while the glass shell and the plastic part of the lamp cap are insulators. The light bulb is made according to the principle of the thermal effect of electric current. After the bulb is connected to the rated voltage, the current passes through the filament and is heated to an incandescent state (above 2000C), which generates heat and emits light. Thus, when working, the electric energy is converted into internal energy and light energy.

A light source widely used by people, it can emit warm and yellow light, which is what most of us think of as a light bulb. Its price is cheap, therefore, the tungsten bulb also has a variety of styles to match different lamps. However, the lifespan of the tungsten bulb is not long, and it does not save electricity. It also emits a low temperature, so it should not be too close to paper, textiles or plastic products.
